Alberta's Changing Electricity Landscape: What It Means for the Industrial Sector

DateMonday, October 5, 2026
VenueBennett Jones, Bankers Hall, Calgary
Program9:00 AM – 3:30 PM

Presented by Rodan Energy Solutions · Hosted by the Alberta Direct Connect Consumer Association

About the Forum

A full day for Alberta's industrial businesses, operating through electricity reform.

Alberta's electricity system is going through significant change. Restructured energy market implementation, transmission tariff evolution, large load integration, and system access constraints all affect the cost and reliability outlook for industrial customers.

The Forum is an opportunity to hear directly from the people making those decisions, discuss what the changes mean at an operational level, and connect with others facing the same questions. Speakers include representatives from government, the AESO, and industrial leaders.

The Day

A focused, working discussion.

Part 1 · 9:30

What's changing in Alberta's electricity market

Policy direction, restructured market design, transmission planning and large load integration, the price outlook, and what tariff evolution means for delivered cost.

Part 2 · 10:45

What it means for industrial sites

An executive fireside on whether the system can keep up with industrial investment, followed by an industrial panel on cost exposure, hedging and expansion decisions.

Part 3 · 1:00

How industrials are responding

Plant decarbonization, cogeneration and self-supply at scale, which projects are getting funded in Alberta, and where industrials are leaving flexibility value on the table.

Part 4 · 2:30

What's next, and what industry needs

Case studies on behind-the-fence technologies, the self-supply regulatory landscape, and a facilitated discussion on what industry needs to enable innovation.

Who's in the Room

The Forum is deliberately small and deliberately focused for large transmission-connected industrial power consumers.

Government and AESO

The Ministry of Affordability and Utilities and the Alberta Electric System Operator, in the room to provide updates and hear from industrial customers.

Members and peers

ADC members and prospective members, peer industrial consumer associations, and a limited number of solution and service partners.
